Carrefour Italia has enabled its customers to avail of the Apple Pay payment system when making purchases.
Apple Pay works on POS devices that bear the contactless logo, and are present in all Carrefour Italia stores and in most retail outlets in Italy.
To use Apple Pay, consumers do not need to open a bank account. They just need to ask at Carrefour Banca counters or online for a PASS Card, which works with all MasterCard terminals.
When using a credit or debit card through Apple Pay, the card number is not recorded on either the device or Apple servers. Instead, a unique encrypted code called Device Account Number is assigned, which is safely saved in the Secure Element of the user’s device. Each transaction is authorised with a unique dynamic security code.
As an added advantage, Carrefour Italia offers PASS Card users other benefits, such as the PASS Day (10% discount one day a week in participating hypermarkets and supermarkets), the collection of extra Payback points and the possibility of paying in three instalments, interest-free.
Apple Pay is compatible with the iPhone SE, iPhone6 and later versions and Apple Watch.
