Carrefour Italia has introduced a smartphone-based digital payment service across all direct points of sale under its banner.
The service has been enabled by money transfer service Jiffy in collaboration with financial services provider SIA and banking group Gruppo Intesa Sanpaolo.
Secure Payment
To complete the transaction, customers need to access the Intesa Sanpaolo mobile app and scan the QR code generated at the cash desk with their smartphone.
Payments are made at self-service counters or manual cash desks using a fingerprint or facial recognition system.
Intesa Sanpaolo customers can pay with XME Pay, the wallet available in the Intesa Sanpaolo mobile app.
It is accessed by around three million customers and has recorded around 50 million logins per month.
Money Transfer Service
Money transfer service Jiffy is already being used by more than 130 Italian banks.
It was recently integrated with Bancomat Pay, extending its reach to a potential base of 37 million PagoBancomat cardholders across 440 banks.
Carrefour Group operates 1,073 points of sale in 18 Italian regions.
