Carrefour Italia has joined the 'Too Good To Go' initiative, which aims to address the problem of food waste.
Developed in Denmark in 2015 and now in nine European countries, the 'Too Good To Go' app enables supermarkets, restaurants and bakeries to sell unsold food considered 'too good to be thrown away' via an online platform.
Retailers and restaurateurs enrolled in the app can create 'Magic Boxes' of products that customers can buy at low prices, from €2 to €6.
According to Alfio Fontana, CSR manager of Carrefour Italia, the 'Too Good To Go' app enables the company to tackle the issue of food waste, which is considered both a social and environmental problem.
The Waste Watcher 2019 report has revealed that, each year in Italy, over ten million tonnes of food is wasted, with an overall value of €15 billion per year.
