Carrefour Romania has introduced two new technological innovations as part of its ongoing digitisation strategy.
The French company, which has 318 stores in the Balkan country, has become the first national retailer to launch a food ordering app.
The new Gurmandio mobile app enables consumers in Iaşi, Suceava, Botoșani, Piatra-Neamt, Galati and Târgu Jiu to order their favourite dishes, with free delivery.
A wide variety of dishes from the gourmet section of customers' local Carrefour hypermarket is available, along with meals from local restaurants. New options will be introduced over the coming months.
"Innovation is the key word when we develop products and services that improve and complement our customers' buying experience," said Cătălin Samara, director of marketing, digitalisation, and IT at Carrefour Romania.
"We use the benefits of new technologies to increase consumer accessibility and comfort, and Gurmandio is an important step in this direction."
Digital Innovations
Another market first for Carrefour Romania is ‘Lumea Carrefour’, a ChatBot through Facebook Messenger that allows for real-time interaction between customers and the company.
Users can quickly find information about the location, openings hours, or contact details for Carrefour stores, view product catalogues, optimise their route to the nearest brach, or search for jobs.
The latest innovations follow the introduction of the Bringo app last year, which offers Carrefour customers in Iaşi, Cluj, Constanţa and Bucharest the opportunity to choose from a range of over 50,000 products and have them delivered in 90 minutes.
