The new Edeka Schmidt's Markt XL store in Bad Säckingen, Germany is the 13th store to open in the Schmidt's Markt portfolio, and is arguably the most striking to date, combining gastronomy, a range of on-the-go items and an in-house bistro, as well as a broad range of fresh products.
Opened in January, after a planning and development process that took ten years, care was taken in the development of the store to ensure a 'market hall' character.
Design features include exposed brickwork, a myriad of gourmet food counters (including an iconic 'tower of cheese'!), and a range of innovative refrigeration solutions supplied by Viessmann Refrigeration Solutions.
Commenting at the store's opening, Bad Säckingen mayor Alexander Guhl told local daily Südkurier, "I'm speechless. This store is a figurehead for the city."
