Representative body EuroCommerce's general director Christian Verschueren has urged MEPs to stick to the previously agreed compromise on electric vehicle charging stations, as they vote on the Directive for Energy Performance of Buildings Tuesday.
Verschueren said, “We very much hope that the European Parliament will vote to adopt what is now a practicable compromise on charging stations. Our leading retailers have already been active in providing recharging points for electric cars, and are ready to invest to meet the real needs of customers in the electrification of mobility.”
Directive Provisions
The provisional agreement stipulates that new and major renovated building with more than 10 parking spaces must have at least one charging station installed. Twenty-percent of lots have to be pre-ducted, which prepares them for a future charging station. SMEs and already planned construction work is exempt from the agreement, which comes into force in late 2019 or early 2020.
Another provision of the agreement is that EU member states must implement rules for a minimum number of charging points in all existing non-residential buildings featuring more than 20 parking spaces.
EuroCommerce said it supports this provision, which 'allows Member States to decide how to address this rapidly evolving field in the most appropriate way with fit-for-purpose rules.'
