Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced that it has teamed up with the 'Too Good To Go' app, to launch a pilot project that will prevent food waste.
Customers will be offered a 'Magic Box' via the Too Good To Go app, containing surplus food that would otherwise end up in dustbins.
The 'Next Step'
Theo Willemse, executive director sales and operations at Jumbo, said, "We optimise our chain as much as possible to prevent waste, encourage customers to throw away at home and work together with the Food Bank.
"The collaboration with Too Good To Go is a nice next step. One that our employees are happy with, because thanks to this initiative they can 'save' food together with our customers. "
The contents of the box will vary on a daily basis, depending on the food items in the store. It will be priced at one-third of its actual value.
Eleven stores in Amsterdam are participating in the pilot, which will be carried out for one month.
The retailer aims to evaluate the pilot, and implement necessary modifications, before rolling out the service to other stores in the country.
