German wholesaler Metro has announced that it has expanded its partnership with the anti-food waste app, 'Too Good To Go', in four countries.
The extended partnership will see the wholesaler collaborating with the anti-food waste company in France, Spain, Italy, and Belgium.
The app enables supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries to sell unsold food items that are approaching their expiry dates, at discounted prices.
Initial Phase
In October of 2018, Metro announced a partnership with 'Too Good To Go' for selling unsold food from select store restaurants in Germany and all 17 Metro outlets in the Netherlands.
By June of this year, the collaboration resulted in preventing around 12,000 meals from ending up in dumpsters.
'Promising' Partnership
Veronika Pountcheva, global director of corporate responsibility at Metro AG, said, "We are united by the goal of actively fighting food waste.
"Different business models, ideas and approaches flow into our cooperation and the current pilots in Germany and the Netherlands show how promising this partnership is."
In Belgium, the app will offer products close to their 'best before' date from Metro stores.
In Italy, France, and Spain, Metro will specifically promote the app among hoteliers, restaurateurs, and caterers to prevent food waste in breakfast buffets and lunch menus.
