Multi-partner loyalty programme Payback has announced that it is introducing new partners for its smartphone app, which will enable customers to pay for their purchases via mobile.
The company already operates a loyalty card scheme, where customers can collect Payback points with every purchase, which can be turned into vouchers, or Lufthansa airline miles.
German retailers including Rewe, Thalia and TeeGschwender will now be included in the new digital service, which combines the loyalty programme with a mobile payment function.

By combining multiple services in its mobile app, Payback is aiming to be faster and more convenient than its competitors.
“With the combination of several important features, we are already one of the top three shopping apps on German smartphones," said Payback managing director Dominik Dommick.
"Almost 30 million Payback users have the opportunity to decide whether to pay with cash and use their customer card or if they prefer to use all in one.”
Easy Operation
To use the Payback app for payments, the customer has to enter a personal Pay Pin. A QR code is then displayed on the smartphone, which can be scanned by the cashier. Rewe provides the additional option to establish a connection via NFC.
The amount due will then be paid via direct debit. Neither Payback nor its partners have access to the customer’s bank data.
The Payback app has already been downloaded 11.5 million times since its launch in June 2016. In addition, the normal Payback customer card is used 3.8 million times daily.
