Spar Austria has installed its 80th solar power system, on the roof of its Interspar Imst outlet in Tyrol, as the group continues to invest more and more in sustainable energy.
The Interspar Imst store has an annual energy production of 215,000 kWh of electricity, which corresponds to the demands of 60 households.
Together, Interspar's network generates 4.4 GWh of electricity per year.
Renewable Energy Sources
Hans-Jörg Schuth, the managing director of Interspar said that he believes photovoltaics are the most efficient renewable energy source, because they produce the highest amount of energy during the day, when energy consumption in stores is also high.
"We have also introduced other environmentally friendly solutions inside our stores, such as energy saving LED lightning, efficient room ventilation and economical cooling units", he said.
Sales Area
The Interspar hypermarket in Imst boasts a sales area of more than 3,000 square meters and offers a range of 140 local SKUs.
Moreover, Interspar Imst provides jobs for 130 people from the local community.
Spar Austria was created in 1970 by a merger of the original founding families and other regional wholesalers.
