Spar UK is introducing the new Zapper app to its stores across the country, which combines mobile payment with a loyalty programme.
The retailer says that number of stores around Plymouth and Exeter were the first to launch the technology, while further expansion across Spar's UK network is currently underway.
To use the service, customers download the Zapper app, scan a QR code at the till, and complete the payment on their phone, while instantly receiving loyalty scheme updates and vouchers.
Convenience Tech
"Working with Zapper means that customers are motivated to shop at Spar rather than at a competitor store," said Ian Taylor, retail director of Spar UK.
"We continue to develop exciting modern and relevant convenience stores and Zapper mobile payment rewards loyalty and enables our customers to pay for their goods faster which in turn will encourage repeat use instore.”
Zapper says that its service provides a quick and easy solution for retailers, but can also benefit FMCG brands, by providing insights on shopping behaviour, and allowing brands to send digital vouchers to customers via the app.
Several retailers across Europe have introduced similar loyalty app schemes, including Carrefour, Colruyt, and DIA.
