A new app has launched in Portugal that enables shoppers to compare prices at Continente, Pingo Doce, Auchan, Minipreço and Intermarché stores.
Available free of charge for Android and iOS devices, the Super Save app enables users to search thousands of product references sold in stores operated by the five banners to find the cheapest prices.
The app was developed by João Veloso, Rita Rebelo and Martim Vieira, three recently-graduated computer engineers, as the current inflationary situation led to greater demand for comparison of prices.
As well as highlighting current prices, Super Save also allows consumers to access daily promotions.
Product Expansion
In addition to the existing store banners, the team of developers hopes to soon include the El Corte Inglés and E.Leclerc chains as part of its service.
To make the new app work effectively it wasn't necessary to contact the supermarket chains because the algorithm "consults public information made available by each supermarket on their online platforms", explained Veloso explained to Dinheiro Vivo.
Prices are updated every day at midnight, with Super Save’s servers indexing the product links in each supermarket by looking for changes and promotions.
As not all grocery retailers provide online price information, as is the case with Lidl, in the future the development team intends to contact the discounter directly so that it can also be integrated into the app.
At the moment the app is not funded, with the development team seeking to establish partnerships with supermarkets.
