Italian retailer UniCoop Tirreno and telecom operator TIM have successfully completed trials of a new technology that aims to improve the shopping experience.
The three-month experiment, conducted by Thinkinside, a start-up company and partner of TIM, took place at the Coop Parco Levante superstore in Livorno. During this period, Unicoop Tirreno gathered useful data regarding the improvement of the service, giving important information on how to reduce the waiting time line at the cash register and how to improve the usability of the store as a whole.
RetailerIN is an advanced in-store analytics solution, able to measure and analyse in real-time and with high precision how shoppers move and interact with products in a physical store, and to turn such data into actionable KPIs for store and marketing managers to improve processes and optimise store profitability.
According to Thinkinside CEO, Iacopo Carreras, the service allows retailers to objectively measure what happens in the supermarket, such as understanding when long queues at formed at checkouts and optimize staff shifts to prevent this from happening.
For his part, head of communication and web of Unicoop Tirreno, Gabriele Masciaga, said that the trial allowed the company to see the Coop Levante Park superstore "through the eyes of the people".
"The data obtained allows us to implement small but significant changes that can improve the service we provide to members and customers, in full respect of their privacy."
