Waitrose has opened a new technologically advanced London outlet in Nine Elms which is equipped with in-store iPads, as well as a scan-while-you-shop facility, thegrocer.co.uk reports.
The chain has said that similar supermarkets could be opened in the London region if the IT-fitted mode of shopping proves to be popular among its shoppers. It said, “The new shop aims to meet modern-day shopping patterns with more technology, new concepts, a broader product range offering, greater convenience and a focus on hospitality.”
The supermarket has a large underground carpark, a bakery with a café area, as well as a sushi bar.
iPads in-supermarket allow shoppers to place online orders while present in the Waitrose outlet, while the scan-while-you-shop points will reduce waiting times.
“We believe these are exciting times for Battersea and Nine Elms,” Waitrose also stated. “There is a real sense of anticipation about what the area will bring and, while it marks a significant change for many local people, we want to ensure it is a positive one.”
