Waitrose has renewed its IT contract with PCMS, the independent retail software vendor, to make its points of sale increasingly tablet and mobile friendly in a deal that extends until 2026, TheDrum.com reports.
The technology to be employed at Waitrose checkouts will streamline the process of calculating data pertaining to discounts and promotional offers, the retailer’s loyalty system (MyWaitrose), and help it assess consumer trends. This will work via the company’s platform, Vision OnDemand.
PCMS has assisted Waitrose’s IT systems since 2003.
The supermarket chain’s director of IT, Charles Webb, said, “We’re delighted to be implementing the PCMS OnDemand platform. This will allow us the operational agility to deploy new applications when and where we want in the future.
“With different store concepts, such as Grazing and Juice Bars, we want the flexibility to operate mobile payment devices and to launch new ideas quickly, while maintaining a reliable customer-centric shopping experience. PCMS will be instrumental in helping us to deliver this.”
Chief product officer at PCMS, Martyn Osborne, said, “Having provided the front-line PoS solution in Waitrose stores since 2003, we’re really excited to be working with them to roll out the Vision OnDemand platform. This new technology will allow Waitrose to further engage with their customers and provides a solution that will permit new concepts to be launched quickly in the future.”
