Point-of-sale technology developer Ecrebo has signed a deal with Waitrose, meaning it will supply the grocer with a checkout platform that will work with the myWaitrose loyalty system, producing coupons and tailored offers to customers based on what items they have just bought.
The deal between the two companies follows a successful trial of the system. It will alert Waitrose customers to the presence of new products in which they may be interested based on their previous purchases, as well as offer recipe recommendations.
In a statement, Sam Winterson, manager of customer loyalty for Waitrose, said, "Ecrebo's technology will complement and extend the channels through which we talk to our customers across the UK and enable us to reward them with offers that are tailored to their shopping habits.
"Rolling out Ecrebo goes down as one of our smoothest IT implementations to date. We've been particularly impressed with the instant flexibility of the software which allows us to deploy or change promotions in a matter of minutes."
CEO of Acrebo Dr Hassan Hajji, said, "Waitrose is an iconic retailer recognised for going above and beyond in giving its customers the best possible service. In an increasingly competitive retail landscape our proven platform will help Waitrose strengthen customer engagement and drive additional sales."
Waitrose, has recorded a fall in profit, and trimmed its staff bonus from 11 per cent to 10 per cent of basic salaries.
