US retail giant Walmart has announced that it is expanding its online marketplace to Walmart Canada's online store.
Through the online platform, 27 third-party sellers will be able to offer their products on the retailer's website, in categories ranging from home, baby, apparel, toys, and sporting goods.
Walmart Canada says that the product assortment on its website will double through this initiative, with the aim of quadrupling its e-commerce sales by the end of the year.
Digital Expansion
"Our goal is simple – to make shopping easier and more convenient for our customers," said Rick Neuman, executive vice president of technology and e-commerce at Walmart Canada.
"The expansion through the Walmart.ca marketplace allows us to rapidly grow our product assortment through sellers we've chosen specifically to address the needs of our customers."
The retailer says that it is committed to improving, expanding and growing its digital services, and in recent months has expanded its shipping options, lowered shipping costs, cancelling the feel for online grocery pickup service orders, and expanded its online assortment.
Walmart Canada operates a chain of 410 stores, serving more than 1.2 million customers each day, while its online store is visited by 600,000 customers daily.
