On Tuesday, Walmart, Inc. said that it had partnered with delivery service Postmates, Inc. (in Charlotte, North Carolina) as part of the retailer's plan to expand its grocery home delivery services to 100 metro areas.
“Customers are busy – they are managing jobs, soccer practice, dance lessons and social schedules – so we are on a mission to do more than keep a little extra money in their pockets,” said Mark Ibbotson, executive vice-president, Central Operations, Walmart US.
“With the help of Postmates, we’re making grocery shopping even easier by bringing the everyday low prices of Walmart right to the front door of customers in Charlotte with more areas to be added soon,” Ibbotson added.
Last month, Walmart said that it would expand the service to reach more than 40% of US households in its attempt to step up the fight against rival Amazon.com, Inc.
Delivery Fee
Walmart's online grocery delivery service, which provides customers with fresh produce, meat, seafood and bakery items at their doorstep, has a fee of $9.95 and a $30 minimum order.
Shares of Walmart were up nearly 1%, at $87.14, in pre-market trading.
