X5 Retail Group has announced a pilot click-and-collect service from grocery lockers in selected Perekrestok and Pyaterochka stores.
The service, which is being initiated by the group's Perekrestok.ru online supermarket and subsidiary 5Post, is complementary to the Russian retailer's existing home food delivery services, as well as parcel pick-up services.
X5 said that it has currently installed 31 lockers for Perekrestok.ru orders in Moscow, 21 of which are located at Perekrestok supermarkets and 10 at Pyaterochka stores.
To use the click-and-collect service, consumers need to spend a minimum of RUB 500 (€6.30) on their shopping, either via the Perekrestok.ru, or the retailer's app.
Heightened Demand
“During the COVID-19 outbreak, when we have seen heightened demand for online food services, this offering is especially relevant,” commented Igor Shekhterman, X5’s chief executive.
The average check for orders collected from chilled lockers is about RUB 2,500 (€31.60), the retailer said.
“This service addresses the stocking-up mission, and helps our customers save on delivery costs while we expand sales in response to the ongoing surge in the number of orders," said Leonid Dovladbegyan, managing director of Perekrestok.ru. "Offering a variety of delivery options enables consumers to choose what fits them best."
