'Robust growth' in online sales in the third quarter and first nine months of 2020 has helped X5 Retail Group to retain top spot in the Russian e-grocery market, the retailer said, citing figures from Infoline data.
The company witnessed online sales grow by more than four times in the third quarter, on a year-on-year basis, as well as in the first nine months of 2020.
In the first nine months, total turnover from online sales amounted to RUB 12.7 billion (€140 million), including VAT.
Sales at Perekrestok Vprok amounted to RUB 9.6 billion (€110 million), while express delivery services generated RUB 3.1 billion (€34 million).
Online sales accounted for 0.8% of the total turnover of the company in the third quarter.
Highlights
X5's online platforms handled more than 1.7 million orders during the quarter, with around 846,000 orders completed by Perekrestok Vprok and 855,000 by express delivery services.
The average basket for orders on the online hypermarket amounted to RUB 3,791 (€41.95) during the quarter, while express deliveries from proximity stores and supermarkets were worth around RUB 1,540 (€17.04).

X5 Retail Group expects online sales to exceed 1% of its total sales in the financial year 2020,
Revenue from X5's digital businesses is expected to amount to at least 2% of total revenue in 2021, the company added.
