Żabka Polska has announced plans to introduce a new service, Żappka Pay, which will allow customers to make payments via the Żappka app.
The contact-free payment option aims to streamline and accelerate the purchasing process at checkout counters in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The service will be available to customers in all 6,100 Żabka stores in Poland as early as mid-June, the retailer added.
'Secure Payment Solution'
Vice-president of the management board for finance and development of Żabka Polska, Tomasz Blicharski, said, “This modern and secure payment solution will make shopping in Żabka even easier and the visit to the store will be shortened to a minimum.
"As part of our strategy, we have been investing heavily in digital transformation for several years, which is one of the foundations of Żabka's network development."
How It Works
To avail of the service, customers are required to connect a payment card in the Żappka app and validate it with a PIN, face scan, or fingerprint.
The process of connecting the card and paying via the application is handled by First Data, Żabka added.
The service can be used to pay for purchases, collect loyalty points, and avail of promotions offered by the retailer for Żappka users.
'Ever-Growing Expectations'
Krzysztof Polończyk, president of the board at First Data Polska, commented, “The latest Żappka Pay payment service available in the Żappka mobile application is a response to the ever-growing expectations of consumers regarding quick purchases and unnoticeable payments.
“The Żappka Pay solution we provide guarantees speed and full security of every transaction.”
In the second half of May, the retailer tested the service in five stores with employees, followed by select customers using the Żappka app.
