UK-based returnable transit packaging firm PPS has grown its turnover by 15%, after a £1.8 million investment in machinery and equipment, PackagingNews.co.uk has reported.
The company supplies, picks up, cleans and repairs different kinds of returnable packaging used by shippers, such as plastic pallets, crates and trays.
These kinds of containers will be delivered to the supplier or producer, packed with goods, and delivered to the customer. They are then washed and returned, where the process starts again.
The increase in turnover was a result of signing key contracts to work with some of the largest food companies in the UK, including Waitrose.
Managing director Joanne Moss said that, over the past year, PPS has invested in pallets, crates and new washing equipment.
"The main industry that we deal with is the food industry, which is very fast moving, so we always need to be prepared and ready to respond," she said. “We have grown at such a rate that we are expanding within just two years.”
The company has a staff of roughly 100 employees, and is planning to sink £400,000 into new equipment and roll out staff-training programmes, according to the online publication.
It is also moving into larger premises in January, allowing the company to take on new staff and continue expanding, a representative added.
