Colinas de Uruguay, a new Uruguayan wine brand which has just entered the UK, is set to enter the country's supermarket chains, thedrinksbusinss.com reports.
The brand, which falls under the portfolio of Blends Wine Estates, is composed of three products: a 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2013 Tannat and a 2014 Albariño. It is the third of these, made of a varietal normally associated with Spain, that the company has earmarked as its flagship vintage.
Each wine carries a recommended retail price of £9.99. The grapes for the wines are, like those of Garzón, drawn from a particular 200-hectare estate in Maldonado, Uruguay.
While Garzón is more of a wine-merchant wine, Colinas de Uruguay will become a large-distribution supermarket wine, however.
Gustavo Crespo, UK managing director of Blends Wine Estates, said, “Uruguay is definitely a country to watch in the UK. The launch of Colinas de Uruguay, which has been developed specifically for the retail trade in the UK market, coincides with this growth and interest.”
The brand is already performing well in Denmark, Ireland and Switzerland.
Blends Wine Estates's UK sales have gone up by 300 per cent in the last four years.
