Carrefour Polska Ceases Sales Of Private-Label 'Caged' Eggs

Carrefour Polska has announced that it has ceased the sales of eggs sourced from caged hens in its private-label assortment.

The move is a part of Carrefour's food transformation strategy for the Polish market and the Act For Food programme.

As part of the initiative, eggs sold under the 'Trójki' label will no longer be a part of its private-label offering the retailer said.

'Leader In Food Transformation'

"Our ambition as a company is to be a leader in food transformation. As part of our commitment to withdraw eggs from cage hens, we have already completely abandoned these products in our own-brand [range]," said Barbara Kowalska, quality and sustainable development director at Carrefour Polska.

The retailer is also expanding its range of organic eggs from Carrefour BIO to promote healthier eating habits.

The retailer had pledged to cease the sale of private-label eggs from caged hens by 2020 and make its entire eggs assortment cage-free by 2025.

In 2018, Carrefour introduced the Act For Food programme to spearhead its food transition goals.
