Carrefour Polska has announced that it has removed disposable plastic plates and cutlery from its stores across the country.
The initiative is part of the retailer's environmental strategy to cut the use of plastics in its operations.
Carrefour Polska's director of quality and sustainable development, Barbara Kowalska, said, "Bearing in mind the elimination of plastic and proper management of plastic packaging, we are try to make changes in many business areas.
"The optimisation of the store offer, including the withdrawal of disposable plastic cutlery, enables us to give our customers an alternative to plastic products."
Sustainable Product Offering
The company has also introduced sustainable cotton buds and pads, certified by Ecocert and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
The products are made of natural, renewable, and biodegradable raw materials, the retailer said.
The cotton used in the buds is sourced from certified crops that are grown without fertilisers or pesticides. The sticks are made of cellulose obtained from sugar cane.
