Nestlé Portugal Invests €11m In Organic Snacks Production Line For Babies

Nestlé has announced that it has invested around €11 million in a new production line for organic snacks for babies in its facility in Avanca in Portugal.

The investment is part of the €40 million budget earmarked by Nestlé for the Avanca and Porto manufacturing facilities.

The new line has a production capacity of 80 cans per minute, or 130 kilograms of snacks per hour, which will efficiently meet the company's needs over the next 15-20 years, according to a report in Jornal de Negocios.

The food giant has hired and trained 14 new employees for the new production line, which will manufacture, among others, Naturnes Bio NutriPuffs in 100% recyclable packaging.

Besides the national market, Nestlé Portugal will supply the products manufactured in this facility to more than 30 countries across the globe.

A Strong Segment

According to business executive officer at Nestlé Child Nutrition, Ludovic Aujogue, the organic baby food segment is especially strong in countries like the USA, where it holds a 40% market share.

In Portugal, organic baby food holds a 3% market share, with Nestlé accounting for 40% of the segment.

Reformulated Range

Elsewhere, the global food giant has announced that its Nestlé Junior line has removed added sugars from its products without compromising the nutritional benefits.

The reformulation of the Nestlé Junior 1+ and Nestlé Junior 3+ recipe, in the natural flavour variety, aims to meet parents' concerns about a healthy and balanced diet for children.
