Polish retailer Żabka has announced that it has opened its first 100% green energy store, in the Białołęka district of Warsaw.
The store features state-of-the-art technology focusing around green energy, recycling, clean air and green transport, the retailer said.
President of the management board of Żabka Polska, Tomasz Suchański, said, “The store will act as our laboratory, where we intend to test environmentally friendly solutions, showing the direction in which the future of trade will develop.”
Highlights
The store meets its entire energy requirements from 100% renewable resources, including wind and solar energy.
The retailer has installed 40 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the store in addition to 'quantum dots' on shop windows that can absorb sunlight and illuminate the store.
It also features kinetic floor technology that converts footsteps into environmentally-friendly electricity with the help of pressure plates.
The energy supports the power supply of devices installed in the store.
Environmentally Friendly Solutions
Vice president of the management board of Żabka Polska, Adam Manikowski, added, “We have installed around 20 different environmentally friendly solutions in the store and its surroundings. We are the first to test these solutions not only in trade, but also in the world.
“We hope that the store, which was previously eagerly visited by local residents, will now also sow curiosity in them and encourage them to take pro-ecological activities.”
The furniture and ceiling of the store are made of recycled materials.
The retailer has also installed EKOmat at the entrance of the store to encourage customers to return used bottles and cans.
Other features of the store include intelligent refrigerator doors, electronic product labels, and green energy phone charging stations.
